The Hunger Games is a play set in a dystopia—North America is but a ruin, and within it lies Panem, a nation divided into wealthy and impoverished districts. To remind the districts of its dominion over them, the Capitol forces each district to send two ‘tributes’ into the Hunger Games, a brutal and deadly televised game show. When her young sister, Prim, is chosen for tribute, Katniss Everdeen sacrifices herself instead. Armed with her unyielding spirit, Katniss must not only survive and battle in the Hunger Games, but also the current political system.
Conor McPherson (The Weir, Girl from the North Country), a multi-award-winning playwright, and acclaimed director Matthew Dunster (2:22 – A Ghost Story, Hangmen) come together to make this incredible new adaptation of a beloved series.
This production boasts an incredible cast, including rising star Mia Carragher (The Gathering) as Katniss, Euan Garrett (Billy Elliot the Musical) as Peeta Mellark, and Joshua Lacey (Wicked, Chicago) as Haymitch Abernathy, alongside a dynamic ensemble including Tamsin Carroll as Effie and Nathan Ives-Moiba as Cinna.
In collaboration with the cast is the talented creative team, including set design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Moi Tran, lighting design by Lucy Carter, and sound design by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
With careful thought, bravery, and power, The Hunger Games in London reimagines a global classic for the theatre, asking audiences what it means to truly resist a world that demands your submission and silence.
